10. Antoine Court de Gebelen (1725-84)
He was a member of an occult secret society which was influenced by the Egyptian mysticism. When he had his first contact with tarot cards, it was by coincidence. Some children were playing Tarocchi with some playing cards. The famous tarot reader identified many symbols used by Egyptian priests on the playing cards. This was the moment he realised these cards may play a greater role. The cards he saw are now categorised as Marseilles type. After he showed his observations to the other cult members, they all agree to develop the cards, by adding some symbols and artwork. The tarot reading treatise that Antoine Court de Gebelen wrote is based on those tarot cards.
9. Eliphas Levi (1810-1875)
Eliphas Levi was a Catholic priest with an extended knowledge in many other religions: Hindu, Cabalism, Masonic religions, Polish and Jewish. He also studied metaphysics, astrology and astronomy. He created a new tarot deck which is currently the most used. He incorporated all of his various knowledge in the cards he created in order to provide a more extensive reading.
8. Arthur Edward Waite (1857-1942)
Tarot reading took a new turn in the 19th and 20th centuries. Arthur Edward Waite did another design for tarot cards together with Pamela Coleman Smith. Due to his membership to a secret society of occultists, he also incorporated new knowledge into the cards. Previously, tarot cards were used to relieve unknown aspects of a person’s inner characteristics. Arthur Edward Waite realised that tarot cards can also be used to predict the future. His cards were the most popular during the 19th century.
7. Mlle. Lenormand. (1772-1843)
Born in Alencon in 1772, Mlle is considered as one of the most famous tarot card readers. She used to make predictions for Napoleon and his wife Josephine. Mlle said she received her first deck of tarot cards when she was 14 and was taught how to read them by gypsies. She was once believed to be the creator of the modern artwork for tarot cards, although it was later discovered that she was not the originator. She remains one of the most appreciated female tarot card readers in history, partly due to her association with Napoleon.
6. Aleister Crowley (1875-1947)
Aleister redid the artwork for his tarot cards. He did the design whilst Lady Frieda Harris did the painting. They became one of the most popular types of tarot cards in the world. He also wrote a mysticism treatise about the tarot used by Egyptians – The Book of Thoth: A Short Essay on the Tarot of the Egyptians.

Ma Prem Usha’s tarot card reading “career” happened by accident, and it was foretold. Ma Prem Usha had to do an interview with some Hungarian Gypsies. One of them told her that she would become famous because of tarot reading. She did not believe a word at the time and she didn’t give it a second thought. A few years later she came across a tarot reading book and she decided to give it a read. After becoming so interested, she quit her job and started to do tarot card readings. She rapidly became one of the most famous tarot card readers in Delphi.
4. Veenu Sandal
Veenu Sandal was an Indian lifestyle journalist who traveled a great deal. She came in contact with many cultures, including mystical tribes. From these tribes, she learned there could be another level of existence. After these experiences, she practiced all sorts of paranormal readings.
